Welcome to ICMR 2021

We are happy to warmly welcome you to the VIII International Conference on Mammoths and their Relatives to be held from 25th to 28th October 2021 being organized by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. This conference will now be held as a “split conference” with an online session in October 2021 and a field trip-cum-mini-conference during 2022 (when travel restrictions imposed due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic eases). During each of the four days of the scientific conference in October 2021, there will be a 3-hour session held at the most convenient time for participants from across the world to participate live.

The themes of the conference include Evolution & Biogeography, Genetics (ancient and modern), Ecology (ancient and modern), Extinction (ancient), Conservation (modern), Archaeozoology, and Others. You can opt for a preference of Oral or Poster presentations. Please follow the link on this website’s home page or the main menu to submit your abstracts. We shall offer one or more exciting field trips during 2022 to see free-ranging Asian elephants in Bandipur National Park (Karnataka, India) and Corbett National Park (Uttarakhand, India) and also to explore the famous Neogene-Quaternary vertebrate fossil site of the Siwaliks (Punjab, India).

Registration and submission of abstracts will be open by the second half of August 2021. As this is an online conference, the registration rates will be kept at a modest level with discounted rates for students, nationals of SAARC countries, and participants from low-income countries. The indicative rates are provided in the conference website but may be further reduced in case we are able to raise additional funding from sponsors.

We have constituted a National Organizing Committee as well an International Steering Committee to guide us in organizing and conducting the conference.

Alpcord India has been contracted to develop the web portal and handle the logistical arrangements for this online conference. Please feel free to inform your colleagues and friends of this conference. We look forward to finally seeing you online later this year!

Co-organizers:

Prof. Raman Sukumar (Centre for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India).
